My new Friends.....Kiwi and Sweet Pea

We were able to give a set of parakeets a home this week.  They were given to our family by another homeschool family.  They are about 3-4 years old.  The girls name is Kiwi and the boys name is Sweet Pea.  I have really wanted birds, and dad said I could have these.

We checked out some books from the library, and this is a few things that I learned.

  • Parakeets have curved beaks that they can use to crack open seeds.
  • Parakeets should fly outside their cage about 1/2 hours each day.
  • They see very well.  Their eyes are on the sides of their heads.
  • You should always check for open windows before letting your parakeets fly around the house.
  • If you keep saying the same word over and over, a parakeet can learn it.
  • They like to eat seeds and fruits and veggies.
  • Parakeets lose their feathers once a year.
  • Parakeets like to play with toys.

The Story Behind the Picture

1.  What is the trailer used for?

There is a satellite dish to keep updated on the news to find their crooks.  It contains barricades and cones.  It has computers and a coffee maker.

2.  Does the unit have proper police supplies?

Yes.  It has computers and survellance cameras.  It also has cones, barricades and a wanted wall so you can watch for criminals.

3.  Is there a place to put the figures that are under arrest?

In the back of the trailer is a small jail cell to put the criminals in.  It has an alarm too.

4.  Does it roll on carpet?

It rolls on the carpet using its tires.  It rolls very well, unless its really thick.

5.  Is it hard to put together?

With the proper eye and following the directions step by step, it's very easy.  You can switch parts around easily too, so that you can upgrade your trailer.

(Joey has started a new writing curriculum.  Thought it would be easiest to let him type each capule assignment in his blog to have a better record.  He will be using Write with World for the next few months to see how he does.)

Leif Eriksson

Leif was born in Iceland.  He is the son of Viking Erik The Red.  Leif was also known as Leif the Lucky.  He was called that because he saved a group of sailors who were going to die.  So they called him that.  He sailed to North America with 35other warriors and is believed to have settled in Newfoundland.  They called it Vinland.  It was the year 1001 AD.  They sailed along three spots of North American Coastline before they reached that point.

More viking clans came from Greenland to Vinland.  But they were not successful in staying in North America. The Native Americans fought a war for their land, and drove the Vikings out of the area.  By the year 1007 AD, the Vikings returned back to Greenland.
